On 06/16/15 at approximately 1245hrs, Rescue 49 was special called to assist Monroe Sta. 23 with a serious motor vehicle crash on the NJ Turnpike North Bound outer-lanes.
Upon arrival, all hands from Monroe station 23 and Station 57 were tunneling through an overturned tractor trailer where the operator was heavily entrapped. Chief Brian Wagner, Assist Chief Scott Kivet and their crew Martin Mareno, Matt Safranek and Ted Wagner provided a large supply of equipment, specifically large paratech struts, numerous sawzalls, the Hurst large sized cutter and spreader, multiple Rams, and a large amount of cribbing. All equipment was used, in addition to three (3) large heavy duty tow truck cranes to remove the large concrete sound barriers, weighing at an estimate 7000lbs per each concrete section.
All crews worked together and subsequently were able to free the operator from the entanglement. It was an amazing well orchestrated job by Monroe Sta 23 and 57 which ultimately saved the operators life.
Plainsboro station 49’s crew were happy to be part of the rescue effort.
